Pick up the Poop!
Unlike human waste, pet waste goes into our lakes, rivers and streams untreated. Even if you don't live near the water, pet waste can be picked up by stormwater and transported through stormdrains. Just imagine, if everyone in your neighborhood owns a dog that poops twice a day, that's a lot of poop going into our water. Dog poop can generate disease-causing bacteria that can make people sick or prevent them from enjoying an afternoon swim.
