Hey Kids!

We need lots of clean water to stay healthy.  Did you know our bodies are made up of at least 65% water? Birds, butterflies, raccoons, and other wildlife need clean water to stay alive,too.  What about the food we eat?  We need plenty of clean water so we can grow lots of fruits, veggies and other foods we need to stay healthy.  We also need clean water for important things like swimming and fishing!

There are lots of cool places to learn about water quality and we've gone ahead and tracked down most of them for you.  Our favorite is

www.secretagentworm.org .  Hang out with secret agent Blonde. Jane Blonde as she and her partner Napoleon Soil go on a mission to discover what REALLY happens when it rains!  Mom and Dad might be interested in checking out the great books that go along with these Secret Agent Worms.

Discover North Carolina's river basins using this great map from the NC Department of the Environment. 
Join Darby Duck and the Aquatic Crusaders as they fight water pollution on this Environmental Protection Agency website.
Explore the bugs that inhabit our rivers and lakes in this EPA website dedicated to benthic macroinvertebrates.  In Masterbug Theatre, you'll see which bugs survive, and which ones aren't so lucky!

Meet Trinity Trudy from the City of Dallas.  Trinity is a young dragonfly who needs clean water to survive.  Join her world and see what you can do to help keep her river clean!

Check out this Stormwater Pollution Workbook.  It's a great resource for general stormwater information and may be useful in school projects. 
Lenny the Lifeguard is the official mascot for the Piedmont Triad Water Quality partnership, promoting stormwater pollution prevention to children of all ages.  Lenny the Lifeguard teaches us to "Hop to it, Protect our Water," and "Oil and Water Don't Mix! Teachers, check out the curriculum, students, print off a copy of the coloring page and get out your crayons!
